Corey Anderson On January 1, 2007, I left behind a 35-year career in human services to follow my life-long dream of creating art full-time. Prior to this life change, I have been turning and sculpting wood on a part-time basis, creating unique works of art while simultaneously giving new life to recovered/recycled trees. Initially, my focus was turning functional bowls on the wood lathe, but as my skills developed, I began to enhance the pieces with carving, branding and texturing to add interest and character. My tree bowl and platter creations are inspired by the poem, "Trees" by Joyce Kilmer and appeal to me personally as I feel a sense of bringing the discarded wood "full circle" by creating within the pieces a new forst, born of my own imagination. These have become my signature pieces and continue to evolve with each piece gaining greater detail, depth and 3-dimensional quality.

At lathe Much of my other work showcases my fascenation with textured surfaces. I have begun to sandblast pieces to create a rippled effect that excites the eye and invites the hand to touch. I believe that trees long to be touched and that my creations, while beautiful to gaze at on the shelf, elicit a deeper and more significant connection when they are held in the hands.
